Baked potatoes are a food to be enjoyed year-round and in endless variations. Recipes for preparing them are almost endless and can be as simple as a plain potato tossed on the barbecue or as fancied up as the cook could wish in the form of twice-baked, stuffed potato skins.

There is not much mystery in how to bake potatoes. The most common, and time efficient, way to prepare this nutrient packed food, is to place the potato – scrubbed clean – onto a preheated barbecue or oven, prick the skin with a fork halfway through the baking time, and remove from the heat source when a fork or knife can easily pierce through the potato. The potato can be eaten at this point or it can be cut in half, the filling scooped out and mixed with almost anything, placed back in and returned to the heat source until warmed through. The options are only limited by the cook’s imagination.

While many people believe that potatoes are high in fat, they are actually a nutrient-packed food that is quite healthy. T is the traditional condiments that are usually high in fat. So if you top it with a spoon of salsa you are good.

Enjoy experimenting with these recipes.
