Spiced Pork and Potato Pie Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 medium potato, cut into chunks
  • 1 teaspoon sunflower oil (5 ml)
  • 500 ground lean pork
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (1.25 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon all spice (1.25 g)
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon (1.25 ml)
  • 100 ml stock
  • 400 g short crust pastry, ready made
  • 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
  1. First, heat the oven to gas mark 6.
  2. Cook the potato into a boiling salted water until tender, drain and mash. Set aside to cool.
  3. In a non stick pan, heat oil, add the ground pork and onion and sauté until browned.
  4. Add garlic spices and sprinkle plenty of pepper, a little salt, and continue cooking until browned.
  5. Remove from heat. Combine pork-spices mixture into mashed potato and set aside to cool.
  6. Roll our pasty and line base of a 20- 23cm pie tin. Fill pastry with pork mixture and brush edges of pastry to seal, trimming off excess.
  7. Prick the top of the pastry case to allow steam to escape and glaze top with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 30 minutes until crisp and golden.
  9. Slice into wedges, serve and enjoy!
Notes
It’s best served with a crisp green salad.
